Descriptions:

Can the perception of out-of-body experiences be provoked by a stimulation of particular mind locations? And what is the proof that out-of-body experiences are actual? These inquiries are the target of the 2nd episode of our series “Thanatology Up-to-Day”.

Werner Huemer talks to Swiss medical doctor and death researcher Reto Eberhard Rast.

Contents:
00:00:39 How frequently do out-of-body experiences happen?
00:01:08 Underneath which conditions does this sort of an experience manifest?
00:02:19 During experiments experts managed to provoke out-of-body experiences by means of the stimulation of the temporal lobe. Is this a satisfying explanation?
00:04:28 Are there recognised conditions where a thing that anyone experienced reported, could be confirmed by the folks worried?
00:06:36 What is the most possible rationalization for out-of-body experiences?

  1. Thank you both for such an informative interview. As more physicians listen to their patients who have had NDEs, more research will be done. Hopefully, more research will lead to more open mindedness. I believe we are going in that direction.

  2. For me this is nothing new, i came here meet god he has a light orb like body! Chosen my parents my gender could even chose my name but didn't!!! Time goes the same speed here as out of body since its the Fastest it can go. Time however can be reversed can even go in reverse! Spoiler if you want a out of body experience say it it your mind all hear thoughts while out of body god probably heard you also you aren't alone while out of body expect company of god!

  3. I appreciate the update and the scientific treatment of the topic. However, I personally feel that it is not scientific to denigrate anecdotal evidence, as though it is "mere" anecdotal evidence. The chief difference between anecdotal evidence, and laboratory-controlled evidence, is that in the former, the relevant variables are accounted for by circumstances; whereas in the latter, those variables are accounted for by being intentionally controlled by design. In both cases, if the variables are sufficiently accounted for, the results are valid. One is no more scientific than the other. The idea of giving scientific weight only to laboratory-controlled studies, while downplaying anecdotal evidence, is a skeptical ploy to avoid facing the obvious–that OBE's are real events and not hallucinations. There are a great many reported anecdotes which meet the criteria for the relevant variables having been accounted for. It doesn't take thousands of them–even one such account, which is verifiable, is enough to know that the phenomenon must be real. There are, for example, instances of a congenitally blind person being able to see during his or her NDE–and reporting verifiable facts that he or she could not have possibly known without sight, as for example the pattern of someone's tie. We have to be bold enough, and honest enough, to admit that the matter has already been decided, and to move forward in addressing the many questions which lie beyond the "is it real or not" issue.

  4. Tbh, if you're looking for science to verify life after death for you you'll always come up disappointed. The scientific paradigm we're in has no desire to discover any sign of an afterlife or for that matter the ability to discover one.

We don't even understand the composition of over 90% of the universe, so what makes one think that we can even begin to verify another reality outside of the tragic one we're stuck in?

The chance of an afterlife existing is 50/50, but I have this nagging feeling there is nothing after this. How could anybody expect anything more when experiencing such cruelty and suffering while on earth?

These experiences that people have close to death are probably just mirages of a fading brain, unfortunately. The mirages these people experience bring a certain comfort though.

Warmth, the ability to be free from the body and its limitations, to be free from pain, suffering and worry, To feel belonging and love. Like you're worth something outside of being some cog in a machine for someone to extract wealth out of you…….

I guess an eternity of unconsciousness isn't too bad. Frightening, but not too bad. It's just a shame everything we endure through in this life is all for nothing. Nobody at the end of the finish line to congratulate you for all the fighting you did. Just a cruel evaporation of self awareness.

  5. I have had two clear out of body experiences in my life. In the first I was an adolescent leading a relatively disordered life in London. I was lying in bed when suddenly I drifted out of my body and rose to a corner of the room. I turned and saw my body lying below on the bed, and felt horrified to see it. I shot back into the body and opened my eyes. All was back to normal, but I had a terrible headache and felt very depressed.
The second time was quite different. I was a good deal older and was in the habit of meditating every evening. One night I began to hear an incredible music, like a polyphonic orchestra, but way beyond the normal music we hear. I quietly got up and lay on my bed and found I could at will float out of my body. I could go through the wall and rose up above the house in the moonlight. From there started an incredible journey, into the earth, and to other countries, that ended with my returning to my body and going to sleep. However, apart from one similar experience that was rather faint, and left hardly any trace in my memory, it never happened again. This was all 50 years ago now!

  6. If you want to consider the last technological breakthrough – metaverse and the omniverse you will begin to realize that we are presently creating another layer of reality ….. is this universe too a layer from a base existence and our 'true/higher self' is there – at death our consciousness returns to the source …. humanity is creating this right now, all technology! If you listen to NDE's it hints so

  7. During an allergic reaction to medication I ended up outside my body just as though my soul knew what to do and left immediately. As I sat there next to myself, unafraid and pondering this event, a beautiful spiritual event unfolded, unlike anything my imagination could have fathomed, it’s taken me years just to find words to try describe it. I was soon put back into my body after understanding there was more left to do- being a mother makes this correct, glad I was given a second chance.

  8. Woe. Why does Dr. Eberhard have Werner’s voice now and Werner has Dr. Eberhard’s voice? Did they do a secret OBE experiment on themselves together but then mess it up and both came back to the wrong body? Is that why Werner’s body is dressed different from usual?

  9. Remembering and actually happening are to separate things. For instance people could have experienced all these things, like seeing those boxes, without remembering seeing them. The same applies as an explanation for the big difference in the positive and negative experiences. Remembering is the key.

  10. Thank you for that. I find it all so interesting. I had an o.b.e where I was flying on my own and could actually feel the power I had to do this.I didn't see myself at all only my feelings of flying and being in awe of this power. So strong was the impression that the day after this experience I was so strongly convinced I could do it again and went to my court yard to try to " lift off!" It didn't happen and I felt so disappointed! I can still feel the power of that o.b.e. it's still with me.

  11. Some OBE's are quite dreamlike and illusory while others can be veridical and allow witnessing of real events past and future. If consciousness really leaves the body, it could be that the closer it stays to the physical plane the more stable and verifiable the experience is, and the further away, the more fluid and dreamlike.

  12. Hello, Thanatos. Thank you for your excellent work ! Just to point out @4.54 the cardiologist's correct name is Dr Michael Sabom (not Sutton) and his study was written up and published in 1982 entitled "Recollections of Death" A medical investigation.

  13. Feedback: just to let the makers of this channel Thanatos know… I much prefer the "sitting in chairs is a real room" interview format. I'm not loving this "news room" digital setting. I actually cannot watch it, the faux room gives me a headache.

  14. Regarding OBE's @1:30 he mentions people who could produce them, @ 2:00 he mentions tortured adults. This was reported by the pilot in Blackhawk down, in Mogadishu Somalia, where the pilot was dragged out from the downed helicopter and beaten. He observed the beating from a few meters above the scene. He said he was relieved to not have felt it happening, although I don't recall at which moment he left the body. I read an interview with him on a military channel, not a NDE interview, just a regular news interview, many years later.

  15. There is NO SUCH THING as an Out of Body Experience simply because "LIFE The Real Self or AWARENESS" is NOT in the human body to start with ! What you believe to be your World, is just a 'STORY' displayed in the form of a 'Holographic Simulation"* in a Display Register.
of The Processing System of LIFE"… "LIFE The Real Self" or Awareness is Non-Dimensional, and does NOT represent or even look like any species, including the human species.

  16. putting simple boxes for nde'r to see is not very good idea if the goal is for them to notice them. They should put some object that would be unique/interesting/odd enough to take notice compared to boring simple boxes. I know if I personally was seeing my own body from above, boxes would be last thing I would notice or care about.

  17. Anyone interested in this subject matter I'd highly recommend a book called 'Journeys out of the Body' by Robert Monroe. One of my all time favourite books about his spontaneous OBEs and what he experienced, and how it convinced him beyond any doubt that consciousness survives death. His story is phenomenal, and quite well known around the world 🙂 – sadly he is no longer alive – but I am sure he lives on somewhere in the universe.

  18. I've had two, very different out of body experiences. The first one I came out of my body while driving, I must of been 100 foot in the air, in complete darkness looking down at myself driving, I could see through the car. I felt weightless no negative or positive thoughts but still me, it felt amazing. I had a split second to decide whether or not to go back, I chose to come back and was instantly inside my body.

Second one was somewhat scary.. I left my body in my apartment and went to my front door. I looked through my door and saw numerous spirit like beings waving knives running through the hall outside my apartment, they all looked exactly the same. I went back to my body and when I got in I couldn't move or talk, I could only think, it was scary. I panicked and shouted "Jesus" through my thoughts, nothing happened, I thought of "God" and my left arm started to move, before long I got up and made a cup of tea.

The first one was amazing as for the second one, I hope it doesn't happen again.

  19. We all have abilities that are dismissed as nonsense at an early age. Adults tell us don't be silly or it's just an overactive imagination. So we believe what they say and quit trying to exercise our imagination. We fall in line with their perception of reality. Else they will give you drugs to assimilate you into their world. It's not their fault. They were trained the same way. We are all very intelligent powerful light beings. Except we were purposely turned weak. Like muscle and mind our light atrophied because of lack of exercise. You don't want people to think you're crazy, do you?

  20. During my childhood I could leave my body at will. I would close my eyes and picture a white dot then I would create a spinning of the white dot that looked like a Katherine wheel. I would then bring the wheel towards me and send it away from me. As the wheel moved I felt myself rise and leave my physical body. I felt safe and calm.

  21. I was unaware of my body in the NDE I had at 19; I was simply faced with a great deal of love. I also saw our great-grandfather who addressed me telepathically, telling me that if I touched him, I couldn't go back. Instead of having a choice, I was whooshed back into my body. It was a beautiful experience and I'm no longer afraid of death. Peace to you all. ♡

  22. My now ex-husband used to have epileptic seizures in bed & about 2 seconds right before, he would flip on his stomach & try to hold onto both sides of the bed or hold onto a part of me for dear life! For me, very painful & there was no releasing his grip! One day we were discussing this one particular time this had happened. And I was recounting something about that night when he seized. He corrected me & he was right! I asked him how he could know that, since the brain is nkt functioning. He told me he saw it. I asked him from what direction he was looking at the bed. He said, “from above!” I said, “Jerry, you were out of body!” He told me he must’ve been dreaming, which impossible during a seizure. It always seemed to be when he was in theta brainwave state! If he was starting to fall asleep & he was standing, he’d end up on the floor, usually in the bathroom, asking what just happened with a bloody nose.
