I'm an atheist but I'm skeptical of this story (who could see that coming? lol.) But this story is odd. He was a Christian, maybe not devout, but a Christian nonetheless. Then he has a bad break-up and blames God and decides he'll be an atheist. This is a bad reason, like a very, very bad reason to not believe in a god of any kind. There are so many good reasons to be skeptical. But a bad breakup has no logical impact on the existence of anything–other than a relationship. The fact that a girlfriend might have cheated on me has nothing to do with whether or not Harry Potter exists as a real person.
Then, the same thing happens for his conversion back to Christianity. All of this falls into the "atheists are just mad at god" trope. Maybe that's how this guy was. But most of us just don't find it convincing. To me, there's no difference between Greek Mythology and Christianity. They're both myths that seek to explain the world and our place in it.

Come on man, you clearly still believed it got but where mad at him because you got dumped. I mean there is no dedication to finding the facts of religion or doing a deep dive into your faith in this story but rather you got mad at God so decided to be worldly for a while to spite him. Also at the end of my faith it was more like God you don't actually exist i can't believe this is happening rather then i am so sick of you God i need a break.
My process into becoming an Atheist took 6 months of almost daily research into the truth of the bible, the history of religion, science and all sorts of related topics to the point one day i eventually realized i was an Atheist (i did not decide to be one because God didn't let me keep a relationship going) to the point i was begging God to be real but got nothing in the way of proof from him.
How could have God allowed this to happen in my life?
Listen i get it if something really horrible happens to you, like you know your kid died, or your father died when you where young leaving you in poverty, or you saw a family member get horribly sick and die or many various horrible things that occur regularly but a breakup is not the biggest deal.

You where always a Theist then by definition here. You clearly believed in God the whole time but went the way of the prodigcal son only to return to the fold. Now that is different from my story, i actually don't believe in a God, i wish God was real and i never wanted to be an Atheist but i see no evidence to prove one actually exists.
Drink, get high, drink, get high, sober enough to go to work, drink at work repeat
This is part of the whole living the wordly life, you deep down where still a believer but got no satisfaction from the worldly life of sin, felt empty then got called back to God because of it. This story is really common among a lot of people. Now with me i never was into the drugs, i can drink on occasion but not to excess only after the important stuff is done (once i am done with work). I don't do other drugs at all, most of the time i am a very sober and stern person.
In terms of what to live for since i don't believe in God well i live to enjoy my one and only life the best i can, that is good enough for me, i don't believe in a cosmic purpose or that the universe cares about us or any God exists but i simply try to enjoy the experience that is life.

The bible implies (depending on translation) that his daughter was supposed to be executed for committing that act. But aside from that though this conversion story basically has him becoming strong armed into becoming a Christian again with the threat of the father looming after you how is this impressive?

The problem with that is the only reason we know that is because what the gospels who were written by Greek Christians writing down oral stories passed around for decades claimed he said who he is. In terms of why i should believe it the evidence is too weak.
