ABOUT ELIZABETH
When Elizabeth Greenfield Krohn got out of her car with her two young sons in the parking lot of her synagogue on a late afternoon in September 1988, she couldn’t have anticipated she would within seconds be struck by lightning and have a near-death experience. She felt herself transported to a garden and engaging in a revelatory conversation with a spiritual being. When she recovered, her most fundamental understandings of what the world is and how it works had been completely transformed. She was “changed in a flash”, suddenly able to interact with those who had died and have prescient dreams predicting news events. She came to believe that some early traumatic and abusive experiences had played a part in preparing her for this experience. Told in matter-of-fact language, the first half of her book Changed in a Flash is the story of Krohn’s journey, and the second is an interpretation and analysis by respected professor of religion Jeffrey J. Kripal. He places Krohn’s experience in the context of religious traditions and proposes the groundbreaking idea that we are shaping our own experiences in the future by how we engage with near-death experiences in the present. Changed in a Flash is not about proving a story, but about carving out space for serious discussion of this phenomenon.

We believe NDEs can transform an individual’s life, influence the sciences, and embolden society. Today, IANDS engages in far more than research and has members from around the world. What is an NDE?
An NDE is typically a profound, life changing, intensely emotional experience that usually occurs during a clinical crisis and has common characteristics and aftereffects. It is not a dream, hallucination, or mental illness (Greyson, 1983). There are no predictive variables to identify who will have an NDE. They happen to people of all ages, religions, socio-economic groups, cultures, educational backgrounds, and belief systems. They occur under a variety of circumstances such as accidents, near-drownings, illnesses, combat, surgical procedures, and childbirth. Following an NDE, experiencers (NDErs) often display some common aftereffects. Research has established a set of common NDE characteristics and long-term aftereffects. Theories used to explain near-death experiences in purely physical terms have been proven inadequate by NDE researchers and others.

  1. I love how people accept and make excuses for being decieved then take everything else as honest… The grandfather et Al was fake but everything else was true…. You don't trust liers… You don't make excuses for liers.

  2. It's been years since I had a strange experience, it was after an accident that led me to an unconscious state for a few days. It took so much effort & time to process & accept what I experienced during this unconscious state. In short what I learned is that I am of the ill company, that I am one of the worst beings alive & that there is a place for my kind after my pathetic existence here amongst everyone. This place is far worse then the hell that religions have conjured up. I personally believe that this terrible place that awaits my awfulness is still too kind for what I am. Eternal fires wouldn't do justice for what I've become. I hope I get far worse than I deserve. Since suffocation and water I fear most, perhaps adding the endless drowning to my sentence would at least do some justice.

  3. i have been studying NDEs for many months since my wife passed away after 55 years of marriage, and have read 10 related books mostly by doctors –some of who have had NDEs and some who have researched them for 30 or more years. But this video by Elizabeth in its simple direct language is one of the most convincing of the existance of a higher realm and life after death that i have read to date.. Thank you so much Elizabeth.

  4. Thank you so much for your honest and beautiful telling it brought tears to my eyes remembering my own NDE and healing from total septicemia. We are beautiful light beings having a glorious spiritual experience on gaia.

  5. so kind and caring. I remember seeing a video of elizabeth from quite a few years ago discussing her NDE.

you can see how much she has wisened and grown during that time. how much more humility and openness she's developed.

I still have a long way to go on those fronts in my journey and role models like this help.

  6. I’ve heard your experiences many times Elizabeth, and it never gets old, I’m also an NDErs and OBE and listening to my NDE brother and sisters is always a pleasure to me, I wish you well and many blessings on your path, AMAZING!!

  7. With regard to her out of body experience; very similar to Dr Tony Cicoria's. The rest of it is even more mind boggling but I accept her account, she's clearly telling it as it was. Thank you, Elizabeth!

  8. My chronic fatigue is making it very difficult to type this.
So it's going to have to be short.
Girl. We have soooo much in common! Lightning strike, premonition dreams (a gift for a coworker), etc.
I'm going to rewatch your video & take notes to better write a detailed comment.
I've experienced lots of "I could have died" but never did!
    Drowning, kidnapping, lightning strike, etc.
So it's like I've barely got my toe touching the other side. But since I never fully died … my abilities are sporadic.
When I was a nail salon owner, I began getting mental snapshots of their unborn child.
I could see them at the toddler stage, standing, sex, hair color, sometimes eyes, AND the outfit they're wearing!
But when my sister was pregnant… I could only see the back of her boy. He was tall, toe-head blonde, standing next to her refrigerator wearing denim overalls.
It wasn't meant for me to see his face. He was born with Down's Syndrome.
    Ok. Gotta go for now.
    So glad I found you!
Now I know I'm not crazy!
    So much in common.
Thank you for sharing your experience. You deeply touched me. Thank you.
