Descriptions:

A psychological approach that is often pointed out when it comes to detailing near-death experiences, is the claim that near-death experiences are a protective mechanism of the mind.

Are near-death experiences actually just “performances” of the mind in order to make the horror of death far more bearable for us?

Werner Huemer talks to the Swiss death researcher Reto Eberhard about this subject matter.

Contents:
00:00:32 Are near-death experiences a performance of the brain in buy to make the horror of death far more bearable for us?
00:02:26 In how significantly are near-death experiences a mirror of somebody’s cultural and specific religious beliefs?
00:04:47 Is the mind in a position to develop experiences?
00:07:11 Are there correlations involving our brain features and our experiences?

  1. There is a correlation between the human brain and consciousness, however consciousness is not necessarily dependent on the brain. The brain allows consciousness to express itself in our normal, material world, but it seems very unlikely that consciousness is part of the biological brain. The nature of consciousness remains a mystery.

  2. It cannot be, as the babies do not fear of death and there is lot of experiences in babies. I mean very little children. I believe they do not have that "mechanism". There are people that remember experiences by the age of 2!.

  3. Not worth the watch. I believe those who have had NDE's. Not Dr. Quack. Delores Cannon YouTube channel help those who have been ridiculed, not believed by drs, families and others. NDE'rs have been through the wringer due to doubters.

  4. If our bodies are the result of evolution, I struggle to understand how our brains evolved to be able to create NDEs. What I mean is that an NDE doesn't seem to be in anyway advantageous in the survival of an individual or a species. Whereas everything else our minds and bodies do, does. Even dreams serve a purpose in helping us make sense of events and possible scenarios. But what biological purpose is an elaborate cohesive fantasy during the dying process? One would assume if we simply cease to be and there is no afterlife that either consciousness would simply flick off like a light switch or it would just produce a nonsensical soup of random thoughts and feelings without any narrative at all.

  5. Could it be that the brain is simply the "filter" that consciousness uses to experience this dimension of existence? Maybe our brain only allows consciousness to see, hear, and feel a little. I definitely think there's alot more out there we are completely unaware of, if the brain filters out stimuli that would explain alot.

  6. Well, there are two ordinary biological mechanisms which would ostensibly produce these effects. There is a psychological disassociation mechanism which can protect those in extreme emotional distress, and there is a pain relief and euphoria inducing affect which can engage during fight or flight emergencies. However, these mechanisms would not explain how NDErs and SDErs perceive information which would be completely unintuitive to someone merely immersed in an internal fantasy; they would not explain why there are so many consistent similarities in these experiences, rather than highly random fantasies; and these mechanisms certainly can not explain why some people have enormous experiences of consciousness while their brain is completely shut down for extended periods of time. It seemed like Werner wanted to say something to Dr. Eberhard at one point but was too afraid to. Don’t be afraid of him, Werner, just because he is so much bigger than you. Just hold your arms above your head to make yourself appear taller. You will win.

  7. I remember a story of a man was having a cat and died on the table and the computer was still scanning his brain it show activity on a recall memory's meaning the patient was having a life review so what do you say about that? To me it mean that's proof NDE is the brain experience.

  8. Well we know blind people have seen in their NDEs, NDEs still occur with ZERO brain activity, and people have come back knowing things they could not have known before. In other words I don't think the brain creates NDEs. Perhaps the brain tries to understand and explain what the person had seen and comes out jumbled at times.

  9. Soon technology will allow us to upload our consciousness into a program …. If tech can do it then possibly tech is already being used . What would that or those programs look like and who prepared it ? A hell a heaven a eternal golf day or a return to repeat ….. figure out how to upload consciousness and we then have the answers. Someone may have beaten us to that tech or our advanced selves are doing it .

  10. Near-death experience is frequently described as "realer than the real life". On the another hand, hallucination is an impairment in the reality experience. Phenomenologically, NDE's and hallucinations are strictly opposed and, therefore, can't be equalized. Materialistic explanations are so simplistic…

  11. Do you realize there is not a single member of your anatomy that is aware of you or even that itself exists…
Go on, I challenge you to get any response from any member of your anatomy letting you know it either knows you or itself !
"LIFE The Real Self" or AWARENESS, is non- Dimensional, and in NO WAY represents, nor even remotely looks anything like any species, including the human species !
Just because one may be Ignorant of this, does NOT say "LIFE The Real Self" does NOT exist, but instead just shows one is Ignorant of "LIFE The Real Self" !

  12. Evolutionary processes promote the survival of a living thing so that it can reproduce before it dies. I don't see how an NDE would affect survival of the species. Experiencing a pleasant or unpleasant death is irrelevant to the species.

  13. If there's an afterlife, perhaps the purpose of life isn't always to experience what it's like being in 3d but that we came to the aide of a loved one to either make life bearable or unbearable as to be able to teach the lessons required for another soul to level up.

  14. Well, yes … the brain does produce experiences, but does the brain let you leave your body so that you can watch what others are doing and saying around you while you appear to be dead? Does it let you leave the room and travel to other areas of the building or across the country in a matter of seconds in order to view a relative as you have the ability to hear and see them, tell them what they were doing, wearing, etc? That's the problem with the brain being responsible for these experiences.

  15. I am sort of baffled at the assessment made at the beginning of the video. To say that we have never heard of a chimp having a near death experience is such an idiotic thing to say, if chimps could talk maybe we would hear about it.

  16. The white light maybe the trap that sends us repeatedly back to reincarnate! William Buhlman speaks of this & Robert Monroe said it’s best to not get caught up in belief systems! They were pitfalls that he saw many times OBE! William Buhlman also states to find the clear light! (Monroe Institute lecture!)
