  1. Storm starts the book with the story of his medical emergency in Paris, France. I agree with another reviewer who is skeptical of his essential story, namely that while in France he could not get timely treatment for his medical emergency, and that he was wheeled from one building to another, outside, while trying to get a single surgeon on his case because all the others were on vacation that weekend! I find that very hard to believe!

He also spends some time telling us that he was an atheist before this incident. Or, at least his version of what it means to be atheist. He describes himself as being self-absorbed and not interested in the idea of a god because he wanted to make sure he got his & to hell with everyone else. He implies that anyone who does not believe in the existance of a god being is immoral. Even in this part of the book you feel like a setup is coming. This does not represent a simple belief that without proof of a god there is no reason to believe one exists. But, I digress. Then he goes into a description of being drawn away by unseen creatures into what turns out to be hell, and that in his distress he remembers something he learned as a child in church & called out to Jesus while mixing in stuff from God Bless America & the Psalms. Then the meat of his book really begins.

Storm mixes together all kinds of ideas. He contends that the suffering universe was created deliberately by god for the sole purpose of god being able to have all kinds of experiences through his creation. Storm also mixes evolution in with this as a vehicle to "make souls". At one point Storm contradicts himself and says that god is self-sufficient and does not need anything. Really? The god he describes seems to need to experience a variety of things and is willing to create whatever it takes to make that happen. This god also says that even though religions are man-made, the basis behind them all lead to him, and "all we need is love". The real kicker was the mixing in there of New Thought belief that humans have the power to control nature and are telepathic. His god says he created us with these abilities but we are not allowed to use that power because we are not ready. Storm says god showed him an earth in the future where humans heal each other of disease with the power of their minds, and plants grow because our thoughts make them grow. Can you say "the Secret"?

Ok, so he saw something different. So what? Well, throughout this book Storm takes these ideas and trys to hijack Christianity and make it seem that Christianity is in agreement with what he saw & heard. As a matter of fact, this book is preachy in the extreme and trys really hard to convince us that we need to come over to his version of christian thought because, after all, god told him this directly. Really?? It irritated me that, on one hand, he says religion is created by humans & the way we describe God in those religions is wrong, while at the same time he feels compelled to twist a religion and simultaneously push it. Jesus is the only way! Come on! His clumsy attempt to pretend that, in his mind, all religions lead to god is contradicted by the way he pushes his version of Christianity.

His account seems to have two big themes in common with all near death experiences I have read: all religions lead to the same god, and god does not judge us, we do it to ourselves. However, I have never heard of a near death experiencer that had one with the level of detail he reports. In other books I have read the spirit beings encountered tell them things, but the contact is usually pretty brief and people bring back impressions of what they thought they saw. Not so with Storm. God and the angels told him he will save the world!

I usually enjoy stories like these because they have a mysterious quality to them. Most experiencers of the near death phenoneon take this strange happening & try to figure out what it is & how to integrate it into their lives. Some are radically changed by this experience, and I respect that. What I do not respect is Storm's attempt to seemingly recreate a religious tradition. It makes me wonder if he had an experience at all.

All in all, I do not recommend this book. Anyone who feels compelled to twist a religion to convince himself that his experience was real is to be pittied at the least, and reviled as a liar at worst.

  2. I remember I died in accident as a little child I didn't knew I will die. I remember that day clearly, that moment I died everything turned dark, I could see people around, I was close to these people but I did not see their faces but I could clearly hear them talking to me. I believe these people was waiting for the afterlife. Suddenly I was inside hell, I remember In hell I was crying and walking around, I did see everything was destroyed, I remember something or someone screaming. Suddenly I woke up and I did see doctors around me at the table, they did repair my head was destroyed and my bones. I came back to the life, but I became evil. I became evil maybe because as a child I was in hell. I wasn't even 5 year old little child I died in an accident

  3. Mel I watched you on Jeff Mara and I was so blown away from your story, your honesty and your genuine want to spread your message. I’m thrilled you followed your dream and started your own podcast!! Woohoo!!!! You’re AWESOME !! Great NDE stories!! Keep them coming !! Much love and peace !!!

  4. Howard is a good person. For what it is worth I can corroborate his vision of a sky full of angels in Heaven. In a vision of a desert-like lower world I encountered a man/beast of some kind (working on his car!). As I was getting his attention I realized with a deep terror that I must not make eye contact. I instinctively reached my right hand upward saying "Lord God Almighty take me from here". It was at that moment that the vast field of lights/angels overhead was briefly visible before I was whisked into a harmless dream. It almost felt like a test in hindsight. There is great value in "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matthew 7:23 KJV. We must be recognizable as a a child of love and peace and trust. We must have the skills of the holy. We must know our true home.

  5. This is a really beautiful NDE account and interview.

At 56:00 when you talk about God wanting us to be more like children and grateful and attentive to beauty and stuff like that, I understand that and it's something I've been trying to do and it definitely makes me happier.

However the cynical part of me sometimes wonders…yes there is so much complexity and beauty in nature…but also the fundamental rule of nature…which is for animals to kill or be killed…is not beautiful to me. And it makes me wonder why can't it be peaceful at least for these little critters.

Sometimes I imagine there are other planets where all living things can thrive without having to harm each other. They can munch on non-sentient nutrients and just bask in their sun all day.

I imagine life would evolve much differently and slowly there. And there wouldn't be much room for overcoming challenges unlike in our world where everything is very tough.

  6. As a retired 41 year RN, the pain Howard experienced was unconscionable. It is very common, in the US, for patients to get medicated for pain before surgery.
Maybe he needed to be drug free to not question his spiritual experience. I am grasping here, for a reason.

  7. He says that on earth the peoples are mean.
Jesus responds that is God's will.
Am i the only one who's questioning myself about God's will, knowing that down here some of the things happening are really horrible?

  8. I actually watched a video of him almost a year ago and started watching more videos about NDEs after that, but I'd forgotten his name. Thank you for this interview with Howard Storm, Melissa! It gives me such peace to know whoever is lost on the other side can be found again. <3

  9. Furthemore, we might still be witness ( if the Lord will give us command) even to the outermost part of not only earth but in the afterlife. If those bad people
were there to attacking him, we might be sent there in a mission to rescue ?.
    Why not?

  10. Jesus will save anyone who finds themself into "Hell" which happens mostly to ppl conditioned to there being a Hell that all we imperfect people will end up. We know we cannot be perfect so we assume we will go to Hell. So anyone finding themself in Hell now know they just have to ask for help to get out from their manifested Hell!!
